What To Do In Your First Driving Lesson

What To Do In Your First Driving Lesson | LTrent Driving School

Starting your driving lessons can be incredibly exciting! These lessons are the very beginning of your journey to the driving test, and your driving instructor will help you prepare yourself for going from learner driver to licenced driver.

You may be wondering what to do or expect in your first driving lesson, and it can certainly seem a little scary! Things like parking and lane changing can seem like quite the challenge if you’re just getting started behind the wheel.

Don’t worry, though. LTrent guarantees that by the end of your first lesson, you’ll already feel more comfortable on the roads.

Before you start your first professional driving lesson, you’ll need to have a valid learner’s licence and a logbook if you’re under the age of 25. You can block bookings for multiple lessons at a time.

During the lesson, your instructor will explain the lesson plan and basics of the car. Afterwards, they will drive you to a quiet road so that you can start your driving experience somewhere with little traffic or other interferences that may make you nervous. This will be somewhere nearby your driving centre, and will likely be an easier road to navigate.

You may have a dual controlled car, in which your instructor can actually help control the car in the case of emergency purposes while you’re learning the car controls. In this case, they’ll have a set up in the passenger seat that allows them to help the car brake or turn if and when necessary.

Don’t be afraid to ask your instructor any questions you may have – whether they be about the car controls, or the rules of the road themselves. You’ll learn a variety of driving drills, such as the cockpit drill, in order to help you more easily learn about your vehicle and about how best to perform on the road.

As you move towards your test for your provisional licence, your instructor will help make sure you feel comfortable with any number of road rules, parking situations, and traffic patterns. Your instructor will be able to help you with any areas you feel are lacking in your driving proficiency, and will also be able to help tell you where you may not realize that you need improvement.

The most important thing to remember when it comes to these lessons is that remaining calm and comfortable will help you out the most in the long run. Your instructor is there to help you, and by making sure that you’re paying attention and taking in their instructions, you can really improve your abilities before you get to the provisional licence test.
