About Neranwood, QLD
Neranwood is a small suburb located in the City of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. According to the 2016 census, Neranwood had a population of just 67 people. The name “Neranwood” comes from the Nerang Hardwood Company, which established a sawmill in the area back in 1923.
In the early days, Neranwood had a provisional school that operated from 1925 to 1928. The Nerang Hardwood Company also built a private tramway to transport timber from the sawmill to the railway siding at Mudgeeraba. The tramway had two locomotives named Alison and Kathleen. However, the sawmill and tramway closed down in 1928 because the project was not profitable.
Today, Neranwood is a quiet residential suburb surrounded by nature. There are several parks in the area, including Little Nerang Dam, Neranwood Park, Numinbah Reserve, and Waterworks Reserve Austinville. The nearest primary school is Mudgeeraba Creek State School, and the closest high school is Robina State High School, both located in neighbouring suburbs.
