About Oxenford, QLD
Oxenford is a suburb in the City of Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia. As of the 2016 census, it had a population of 11,842 people. The suburb is characterised by its geographical features, being bordered to the west and north by the Coomera River, to the east by the Pacific Motorway, and to the south by various roads including Universal Street and Binstead Way.
A notable feature of Oxenford is its neighbourhood of Studio Village, located to the south of the suburb. This area is adjacent to Wet’n’Wild Water World and Warner Bros. Movie World, and its name was inspired by Movie World. The streets in Studio Village are named after objects or people related to Hollywood and film culture.
The suburb’s name comes from the Oxenford railway station, which was named after William Robert Oxenford, a significant figure in the area who purchased land in the Coomera district in 1869 and served on the Coomera Shire Council. The South Coast railway line, which included the Oxenford railway station, was operational until 1964. The modern Gold Coast railway line, built in 1996, does not pass through Oxenford but rather through Helensvale to the east.
