Best Places To Practice Driving On The Northern Beaches Sydney | LTrent

If you’re learning to drive, and you’re looking for places to practice driving in Sydney’s North, you’ve come to the right place. In this blog, LTrent Driving School will discuss some of the best places to practice driving in the Northern Beaches in Sydney for learner drivers.

1. School Car Parks (Weekends & Evenings)

If you’re just starting to drive and you’re not yet comfortable on public roads, the best place to practice is at school car parks on the weekends and evenings. Most schools in the Northern Beaches have generously-sized car parks, and they are typically almost totally abandoned on weekends and evenings.

You may have to deal with a few skip bins, parked cars, and light poles, but those are the only obstacles – and it’s unlikely that you’ll have to worry about other cars driving near you. Spending some time in a school car park in the Northern Beaches is the best way to familiarize yourself with the basics of driving, such as:

  • Checking your mirrors frequently
  • Developing a sense of where your vehicle is at any given time
  • Learning how to reverse safely
  • Parking your vehicle and leaving a parking spot safely

By spending a few hours in school car parks, you can safely develop an understanding of the basics and feel more comfortable behind the wheel – then you can move on to a new driving practice area in the Northern Beaches.

2. Manly Vale Industrial Area (Weekends)

Near Manly and Manly Vale, there are some quiet industrial streets that are great for learner drivers who may not yet be comfortable driving among a lot of other traffic. We recommend visiting the area on the weekend, when there will be less traffic from cars and trucks.

By driving on quiet public roads, you can further develop your driving skills and get a better understanding of how to share the road with other drivers. But in areas like Manly and Manly Vale, the posted speed limits are still quite low, so you can still drive safely and comfortably at a reasonable speed.

3. Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park (Off-Season And/Or During Work Days)

If you want to familiarize yourself with driving in slightly more challenging conditions, the road into Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park is a good option. This is a winding, two-way road, but it’s well-paved and very safe.

However, we highly recommend either coming here during the off-season (the cooler months), or in the middle of a work day, if possible. Ku-Ring-Gai Chase National Park is a popular destination for recreation – so the road can get a bit busier during the afternoon, particularly when the weather is nice.
